There’s so much weird 1980s oiled-up militaristic and homoerotic America-rah-rah machine-gun muscular bang bang bullshit in this movie that it could function as a microcosm of Reagan-era America.

And yet, eye rolls aside, it’s still an effective horror/action movie, not inartfully made. The special effects are still pretty gripping, aside from the Force lightning. And the alien is still fucking terrifying when it pulls off its mask.

Worth the rewatch.
